Junior Counselors

What is the Junior Counselor Program?

The Junior Counselor (JC) Program is designed for entry level volunteer leaders age 16 and 17 years old (by July Start of Camp), who are a child, grandchild, niece/nephew or brother/sister of a Minnesota National Guard member or retiree.  Junior Counselors work with adult counselors leading their respective team through the week’s activities.

Junior Counselors are an integral part of camp as they bridge the age gap between campers and adult counselors. They are expected to demonstrate leadership, motivation, creativity, and maturity; and to be present for and participate in all Youth Camp activities throughout the week. JC’s will be working with the campers from 6am to 10pm every day. They will be housed and sleep in the same buildings as the campers.

Adult counselors of each team will coach JCs on all aspects of being a camp volunteer.  JCs will be expected to lead games, songs, cadences, & cheers throughout the week.
The number of Junior Counselors accepted for each week of camp is defined by the number of campers enrolled each week, so it is best to register early. JCs can only participate in one of the two weeks of camp, and parental consent is required to be considered for a Junior Counselor position.

To apply to be a Junior Counselor click on the the 'Volunteer register' for camp button on the left and select the week you wish to attend, after filling out the forms on that page you will recieve a email with the required forms to complete registration.

Any teen interested in volunteering as a JC is encouraged to apply as soon as possible as the application, current physical, essay and references are used to determine which JCs are accepted.

Final selection of Junior Counselors will be made in June for the camp year.

There is no camp fee for Junior Counselors.
